Students will produce work in alternative media with research and creative development in the non silver Photomedia area. The student will, through independent research and critiques in alternative photography, foster self reflective work. Students will produce documentation of methods and techniques that will enable the production of high quality art work and vocational material. Students will gain an awareness of the ethical and philosophical concerns of Photomedia and an in-depth knowledge of simple imaging methods using paintbrushes and sunlight.
Field work may be included in this course

Objectives 1. To foster the development of Alternative Photomedia production;

2. To encourage independent research into Alternative Photomedia concepts and techniques;

3. To promote awareness of contemporary art practices, methods and ideas;

4. To present a portfolio of work in reference to the research undertaking;

5. To promote ethical and philosophical concerns within Photomedia;

6. To promote occupational health and safety issues associated with Photomedia.
Content Topics may include:

Alternative methods of image-making in Photomedia;

Cyanotype, Van Dyke and other Ultraviolet sensitive media;

Folio, book production and design;

Orthochromatic film, copy work and large format exposure methods;

Mixed media and montage methods;

Development and critical and analytical skills essential to Photomedia;

Media practice and ethics;

Research and critical appraisal of Alternative Photomedia applications;

Health and safety.
