AART3050 - The Arts in Health and Community: aims to explore the ways in which the arts engage in the wellbeing of the broader community. The course aims to critically examine actual examples of public arts practices and programs that are targeted at engaging the community. The course will consider the efficacy of these programs in relation to their stated aims.

Objectives On successful completion of AART3050 The Arts in Health and Community, you should be able to:
" Describe the relationship between the wider community and contemporary arts practices and discourses.
" Critique and evaluate public, community and arts health programs, their objectives, methods, practices and outcomes.
" Develop the concept, aims and objectives of a program for community engagement with the arts.
Content AART3050 The Arts in Health and Community is thematically sequenced and structured into five themes:
" Public Programs
" Arts and the Indigenous Community
" Arts in Health
" Festivals and Cultural Events
" Interventions

Each of the five themes of this course is is address by a lecture, a tutorial discussion and off-campus visits, which are an important focus of this course. The lectures are thematic and will examine the theoretical dimension of these themes, with the tutorial providing opportunity for you to discuss these further with other students. The off-campus visits then provide a working example of current practice relating to these themes. The assessment items are also designed to encourage you to critically engage with the case studies, examples and visits relating to the five themes of the course.

Assumed Knowledge BFA students equivalent to 20 units of 1000 level Art Theory courses or equivalent.
BA (Creative Arts) students completion of AART1210 or equivalent.
