3D Art: Concept and Technology

Builds on the student's knowledge of three-dimensional practices in contemporary art. Set projects emphasise a range of 3-D processes which develop the student's technical knowledge and skill acquisition. 3-D practices will be introduced in terms of their conceptual content. The workshops will place strong emphasis upon individual development. The concept of self-directed work practice will be introduced.

Objectives 1. To examine philosophical and conceptual approaches to 3-D practice within a contemporary framework;

2. To encourage students independent artistic activity;

3. To introduce students to the possibilities of New Technology and experimentation in art making;

4. To highlight theoretical and critical analysis of 3-D Art practices through debate;

5. To establish the foundation of sound approaches to visual research as resource;

6. To inform students of the role of the artist in society and their responsibilities.
Content Topics may include:

Mixed and multi media approaches to 3-D Art practice;

Model and maquette production;

Contemporary and historical 3-D Art analysis;

Scale and appropriateness;

Development of the module and multiple forms;

Mould making for production works;

Material technologies and studio practice;

Introduction to art in the urban environment;

Finishing and presentation of artworks in 3
Dimensions;

Research as resource;

Figuration, working from the life model;

Health and safety.
