Exploratory and experimental approaches to contemporary ideas, source imagery and creative applications across a range of 2-D art practices such as drawing, painting and printmaking. Emphasis is placed on independent thinking and problem solving of relevance to the contemporary practitioner.
| Objectives | 1. To encourage independent research of 2-D art concepts and approaches; 2. To explore and further develop the multi-media potential of 2-D art as a vehicle for the expression of ideas; 3. To extend research of imagery, concepts, materials and applications in a contemporary framework and related to the relevant history and theory of 2-D art disciplines; 4. To extend theoretical and critical analyses of 2-D art forms. |

| Content | Emphasis is placed on the development of individual student concepts within a framework of structured projects, specific studio technology and associated research relevant to various aspects of the syllabus: Topics may include: 1. Allegory, metaphor, symbolism and fantasy; 2. Appropriation and shifting referents; 3. Montage and 2-D multi-media possibilities; 4. Advanced and diverse studio technologies; 5. Interpretation of diverse means and techniques of representation; 6. Preservation, mounting, and framing techniques; 7. Installation, site-specific and publication presentations; 8. Critical seminars of completed projects; 9. Compilation of journals and sketchbooks; 10. Health and safety. |
