This course is for students enrolled in programs other then the Bachelor of Fine Art and it introduces the basic skills required to develop and explore the expressive potential of Photography. Using tone, colour and light as an exploratory tool, students will be introduced to a broad range of photographic practices. This foundation experience considers the basic technical, historical and conceptual dimensions of Photomedia.
| Objectives | At the completion of this course students will be able to: 1. Demonstrate an understanding and working knowledge of cameras (film/digital) 2. Have a working knowledge of the processes involved in producing photographs 3. Understand the basics of photographic processes (analogue/digital) 4. Create, analyse and critique their own artistic output 5. Understand the historical and contemporary issues and concerns in photomedia practice 6. Demonstrate an awareness of safe and responsible work practices. |

| Content | • Fundamental technical processes, approaches and methodologies in relation to photographic practice • All aspects of creative image production including: capture and rendering of light; editing and critique; and print production • Critical thinking skills through the analysis of key historical, conceptual, ethical, and theoretical issues that underpin contemporary Photomedia practice • Introduction to the development of effective research methodologies. • Engagement in various aspects of Photomedia practice in response to project briefs • Occupational health and safety and safe work practices. |
