This course is for students enrolled in programs other then the Bachelor of Fine Art and introduces the core skills needed to understand and explore the creative potential of current three-dimensional (3D) practice in the areas of sculpture, fibres-textiles and ceramics. This foundation experience considers the technical, historical, theoretical, and conceptual dimensions of this media.

Objectives 1. Demonstrate creative engagement in various aspects of 3D practice in response to project briefs.
2. Demonstrate a basic knowledge of the cultural, historical, theoretical and contemporary 3D contexts through studio production.
3. Display evidence of the development of individual visual sensibility and creativity in response to set projects.
4. Employ tools and materials in a confident, competent and safe manner while engaged in 3D processes both in tutorials and individually as evidenced in a portfolio of weekly progress.
Content Introduction to 3D visual culture.
• Fundamental techniques, approaches, and methodologies in 3D practice.
• Historical, theoretical, conceptual and ethical issues underpinning 3D practice.
• Introduction to the development of effective research methodologies.
• Occupational health and safety and safe work practices.
