Advances in architecture, engineering and construction are fundamentally reliant on developments in science and technology. Whether these advances are in the environmental sustainability of a building, in its design theory, or in the education of future researchers, science remains a critical component of the built environment.

Science drives innovation; the creation of new ways of understanding materials, processing data, monitoring energy use and increasing efficiency.
Science provides inspiration for design, for computational methods, form generation, theory development and new forms of inhabitation.
Science supports instruction and pedagogy; it assists in improving approaches to teaching and learning.
