Daniel Frost is achieving his dream thanks to the help of a Shaping Futures scholarship.

Determined to succeed

Daniel Frost has a big dream. He wants to get into business and human resource management and while he has had some major obstacles in his way, nothing is going to stop him from achieving his goal.

At the age of four Daniel was diagnosed with Multiple Hereditary Exostosis and has had more than 100 tumours removed from his body so far. As a result of his medical condition Daniel spent a lot of time in hospital undergoing numerous painful medical procedures and operations and missed much of his final year at school. But poor marks would not deter him from achieving his dream. He enrolled in the University of Newcastle's Open Foundation program and his hard-working attitude and determination soon paid off. Daniel received an ATAR of 90.00, gaining him entry into a Bachelor of Business.

He is now in his third year of the degree and well on his way to realising his dream. His medical condition however has left him with a disability – he has a permanently dislocated wrist and elbow making his journey a difficult one.

Daniel's commitment to his studies and his eternally positive outlook won him the Shaping Futures Scholarship in the first year of his degree. The scholarship allowed him to purchase a computer making his studies easier and reinforcing his determination to succeed.

Daniel says receiving his scholarship was definitely the highlight of his first year at university. The proof is in his marks with him passing all eight of his courses just off a Distinction average.

Well done Daniel and thank you to all who helped make his dream come true.
