Cultural courses
Deepening our understanding of China and developing the skills, knowledge and capabilities to effectively engage in the Asian Century is becoming increasingly important to our future. There is a growing awareness in Australia that increasing our integration with, and dependence on the Asian region, requires a more comprehensive ability to understand and communicate with the societies of Asia.
The Confucius Institute offers courses, programs, activities, and creates opportunities for students of all ages and backgrounds to develop the language, cultural and professional skills necessary to better understand the social and cultural nuances important to developing sustainable relationships with China.
Our instructors are all university qualified Chinese teachers with years of experience teaching Chinese to speakers of other languages. The achievements and success of our students is in part attributable to their teaching skills and ability. Our students keep returning and attribute much of their success and sense of achievement to the quality of our teachers and courses.
Tai Chi
Tai Chi is a form of 'moving meditation' that is both a health-promoting exercise and an incredible stress reliever. Tai Chi is for both body and mind. It will reduce your stress, improve your fitness, and enhance your overall well-being.
This is a beginner's class … so everybody is welcome.

Chinese Calligraphy
Chinese calligraphy is the visual essence of Chinese culture. In this beginner's class you will experience how calligraphy was taught and practiced over centuries in China.
Oriented to mastering the basic calligraphy skills you will learn about the origins of Chinese characters and their importance in the art of Chinese calligraphy. The course will also focus on the basic strokes and forms of Chinese characters. The emphasis will be on the techniques, methods and the practice of brush writing, in particular the movement of the brush. By the end of the course you will be able to produce beautiful brush writing.
