Increasing the involvement of fathers and father-figures in schools

Encouraging greater male participation in the educational lives of boys and girls is a challenge facing all schools today. Both boys and girls benefit emotionally, socially and educationally from the active involvement of a father figure in their lives. Recent project work and research from the Engaging Fathers project at the Family Action Centre has developed a model of best practice which has been shown to increase the level of father and father-figure involvement in schools. The seminar will:

consider current research into the benefits of increasing male involvement in schools
present case studies of schools that have successfully improved relationships with fathers and father-figures
provide practical ideas and resources for teachers to use in schools
offer an opportunity for teachers to plan a mini project and receive consultancy support and feedback on their plan.
