The Family Action Centre is a self-funded, not-for-profit organisation. We publish and distribute a wide range of resources aimed at achieving our goal of a truly civil society. By purchasing our products you are helping to support and maintain the Family Action Centre and fund future research and publications.

Indigenous men from all walks of life candidly discuss their mixed feelings, from fear for their partner's health to their sense of joy at becoming a father.  Focus on Fathers

This CD brings together all the resources, knowledge and experience accumulated by the Fathers in Communities workers during their work in schools around Newcastle and the Hunter Valley, NSW. There is information on the hands-on practicalities of organising a dads' breakfast, pro forma documents for the invites and notices you'll need, work sheets for homework projects and the creation of a dads' corner in the classroom, a dads' strengths survey form and more.

 Being A Man

Interpersonal Skills DVD

Recently launched by the University of Newcastle's Professor Trevor Waring, the Interpersonal Skills for Professional Practice DVD is a resource that is application across many disciplines. Using role plays and reviews, the DVD demonstrates the core skills necessary for students of education, medicine, psychology and teaching.

 Bringing it Together

The inaugural Australian Rock & Water conference was held in Newcastle in October 2006. All the keynote addresses and presentations are now available in a book, Bringing It Together, co-published by the Family Action Centre and the Gadaku Institute. Articles describe the evaluation of Rock & Water programs in a variety of contexts: primary schools, secondary schools, Indigenous schools, and in social work settings. Several include evaluation sheets and examples of completed forms.

 The Good News

The Nuts & Bolts of Kids & Schools is a parenting course for fathers of school-aged children. Produced in manual format, it provides a step-by-step guide to the facilitation of a short course for fathers and father-figures. The exercises have been field-tested on non-reading dads and dads from low-income and middle-income areas. We know that they work!
