The Family Action Centre
towards a truly civil society

The Family Action Centre has the vision of a truly civil society, and a belief that family wellbeing is the cornerstone of healthy communities. We strengthen families and communities by undertaking research, training and learning; developing and implementing strength-based programs; and creating models of practice that promote sustainability, social justice and community leadership.

We are self-funded, with assistance coming from the University of Newcastle, state and federal governments, private and philanthropic organisations, sales of our publications and resources, and the delivery of training and workshops.

The 2nd national Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Family & Community Strengths conference is scheduled to take place in Newcastle, NSW, in December 2009. We are currently calling for abstracts and expressions of interest (closing 31 July): go directly to the conference page for more details.

Drumbeat is an exciting and innovative resilience-building workshop based around the power of music. Developed by Holyoake, Drumbeat uses music and rythm to engage young people, improve their participation and cooperation skills, and encourage personal growth and self-esteem.

Results-Based Accountability training workshops are taking place now in Adelaide, Melbourne and Brisbane. RBA is a disciplined way of thinking and taking action that  improves the quality of life in communities, cities, states, territories and nations, and can also be used to improve the performance of programs, agencies and service systems

The Fathers program of the Family Action Centre and Good Beginnings Australia have collaborated to produce the Involving Fathers in Early Childhood Services website. Launched at the recent NIFTeY conference, the site is packed with resources and information.
