Invitation

On behalf of the Asia Pacific ABCD Network Conference Committee, it is with great pleasure that I invite you to the First Asia Pacific ABCD Conference. This Conference is an opportunity to come together to focus on ways in which we can utilise the existing assets of communities and individuals to ensure our society is inclusive of all people, regardless of age, culture, economic status, location and physical abilities.

Delegates will have the opportunity to share their stories, learn from each other and to develop strategies of how to work with communities in strength based ways.

The keynotes have been selected because of their extensive experience in using the ABCD approach in a broad range of contexts.

The conference program reflects the need to focus on the overall philosophy of the ABCD approach, the issues of implementation, the tools for implementation and stories of success.  These elements will be related to the themes of:

* Young People
* People with disabilities and their families
* Indigenous Populations – regional, town based and remote
* Families and Children
* CALD Communities
* Education – School and Universities
* Public Housing
* Heritage communities
* Health
* Faith/Church/Non Government
* Local Government
* Economic Development (Social Enterprises)
* Crime Prevention
* Geographically isolated (mining, islands, rural, regional)
* Mental Health

The ABCD Apporach highlights the fact that communities share similarities across varying economic and cultural dimensions of this globe and provides processes that can guide the way forward as we work together to 'Support others and ourselves to discover and mobilise community strengths'.
