The University of Newcastle EOS Research Group welcomes enquiries and applications from interested students for PhD, MSc. and BSc.(Honours) projects. In recent years our graduates have all found employment in either the petroleum industry (e.g., Jason Roberts and Megan Weale at Woodside Petroleum), the coal industry (e.g., Murray Little at the Geological Survey of Queensland and Michael Creech at Centennial Coal), further academic study (e.g., Aldo van Heeswijck's PhD on the Drummond Basin at JCU) and in teaching (Andrew Walker at Narrabri High School).
Our current research projects are concentrated on the framework and evolution of the southeast Australian continental margin and developing web databases for sedimentary environments and 3D seismic data. Examples of potential thesis topics include multibeam swath mapping of estuarine, shelf and slope settings; new techniques for marine DEM analysis; development of multivariate GIS classification systems for marine areas; the petroleum potential of Australia's east coast basins; seismic stratigraphic development of the margin; sediment texture, age and compositional studies of the margin; and developing web data bases in a range of sedimentary environments combining imagery, topography, sediment facies and subsurface data. Explore our people, publications and projects pages of this website for further examples of our research activities.
If you are interested in researching any of these topics, then please do not hesitate to contact us.
