Palliative Care Needs Assessment Guidelines summary - The Palliative Care Needs Assessment Guidelines provide guidance to those caring for people with a life-limiting illness to ensure appropriate specialist care is offered. The guidelines have been developed under the auspices of the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing to cover patient, caregiver and primary health care provider characteristics which influence the decision to provide specialist palliative care. This document is a general guide to be followed subject to the clinician's judgement, complexity of patients' ongoing needs and the patient's preference for care. It is planned that the Guidelines will be generalised to the non-cancer palliative population after comprehensive evaluation.
