Development of a population based resource allocation formula

Population projections, admission rate projections, average length of stay projections are routinely used by the NSW Health Department. These have been carried out by HSRG for the last 13 years, and new projection models are being developed to incorporate current hospital data, since patterns of hospital utilisation have changed. The methodology has been changed to allow separate projections for Day-Only and non-Day Only admission rates. Robert Gibberd is on the advisory committee for the NSW Health Resource Distribution Formula.

A comparison of the impact of alternative funding methods in three States on the efficiency and equity of the acute care health sector is being carried out.
