Development of clinical indicators for quality improvement

The HSRG continues its strong research and teaching program in the measurement and monitoring of clinical performance. A recent report jointly produced with the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards (ACHS) provides statistical validation of the clinical indicators (CI) currently defined and uses the results to determine the potential for improvement. The third edition of this report has been released, which also monitors trends in the indicators for 1998 to 2001. In consultation with the colleges of physicians and surgeons, the collection and relevance of these data are assessed and new indicators or techniques for analysing and interpreting clinical indicators developed.
