Hunter Ageing Research (HAR) is a diverse network of people interested in research to improve quality of health care and quality of life for the ageing Australian population.
Our mission is to promote excellence in research in geriatrics and gerontology, to advance evidence-based care for older people with the aim of improving outcomes in physical, mental and social functioning.
Population ageing is an important issue for health services around the world. With the triumph of improved life expectancy, comes the challenge of providing for the health and social needs of an increasingly large group of older people. There is an urgent need for health services research with the goals of improving services in terms of equity and access, outcomes, and cost-effectiveness, and for an evidence-based approach to aged care. In the Hunter, we are pouring extra energy into such research on ageing.
