Description

The Graduate Certificate in Health Science is offered in three specialisations:

* Drug and Alcohol Studies specialisation
* Health Promotion specialisation, and
* Stroke Management specialisation

Drug and Alcohol Studies

The drug and alcohol specialisation aims to produce graduates with:

* a broad knowledge base related to alcohol and other drug use including epidemiology, consequences of use and dependence, clinical consequences of use and dependence, explanatory models, history and social context, pharmacology;
* the ability to critically appraise research literature and apply research findings in the workplace;
* an appreciation of preventative approaches; and
* fundamental skills in clinical approaches across various work place settings.

Health Promotion

The health promotion specialisation provides graduates with the opportunity to develop foundation skills and knowledge concerning the principles underpinning health promotion action and the development, implementation and evaluation of health promotion activities. It addresses:

* determinants of health and models underpinning health promotion;
* the epidemiological basis of health promotion;
* the identification of appropriate intervention strategies;
* the design and evaluation of health promotion activities.

Stroke Management

The stroke management specialisation will promote the development of health professionals with knowledge, skills and attitudes to function as an expert clinician within specialist multidisciplinary stroke services and enhance patient outcomes through the application of best practice in the clinical setting through the skills of a multidisciplinary stroke team.

This is a fee paying program. Australian students may be eligible to participate in the Higher Education Loans Program (FEE-HELP).
