The focus of the Centre for African Research, Engagement and Partnerships (CARE-P) is to lead and further enhance the global research capacity, academic excellence, social reputation and humanity of the University of Newcastle through engaging in sustainable and high impact research, teaching and professional consultancy with world class African universities, educational providers, governments and non-government partners.

The Centre for African Research, Engagement and Partnerships (CARE-P) will lead and further enhance the global research capacity, academic excellence, social reputation and humanity of the University of Newcastle within Africa.

Goals

  • CARE-P will enhance the global reputation, standing and recognition of the University by strategic engagement with world class universities and education and research partnerships with African institutions.
  • CARE-P will build on the University of Newcastle's reputation, profile and trusted relationships with pathway institutions, government and global partners, and develop and implement a university strategy for Africa.
  • CARE-P will develop productive networks with international alumni, Austrade, DFAT, Governments, African research institutes, businesses and professional groups and universities to support high quality two-way student experience between Australia and Africa.
  • CARE-P will engage with Faculties, Schools and Priority Research Centres to identify emerging research opportunities and to encourage global mobility of academic and professional staff through strategic exchange and productive collaborations with trusted partners in Africa.
  • CARE-P will develop a strategic partnership with the Future Africa Campus at the University of Pretoria and identify Pan-African research opportunities.
  • CARE-P will act as the conduit between the University of Newcastle and the Australia Africa Universities Network (AAUN) connecting researchers and academics through institutional partnerships to create high impact solutions to address challenges facing both continents.
  • CARE-P will work with the Office of Alumni and Philanthropy to foster meaningful strategic engagement between the African alumni community, industry, government and community stakeholders.
  • CARE-P will work with Graduate Research Office and Key Agent Networks in Africa to grow the number of African HDR students at the University of Newcastle.
