Student Forum 2007
The University invites you to share your experiences as a
University of Newcastle student.
The University is holding a STUDENT FORUM to provide students with an opportunity to tell us about their experience of being a student. The key themes of this year's FORUM focus on student identity, mutual engagement in learning, and a sense of pride and ambition. We especially want to hear from students about how their University experience has given them a sense of pride, how the University has helped to shape their ambitions and sense of purpose, and specific learning events and experiences that have contributed to those developments.
The FORUM will be held as a two-stage event involving:
- an online survey to be run in the last two weeks of September
- a number of student-led focus group discussions to be held at the Callaghan campus on Thursday 11th October, and the Central Coast campus on Friday 12th October.
A large number of students will be randomly selected to participate in the online survey. These students will receive an invitation to complete the survey via their student email contacts.
The survey will be conducted with a broad sample of undergraduate and postgraduate coursework students using Survey Manager. Students who complete the survey will be asked if they would be willing to participate in the focus group discussions to be held during the semester break. FORUM participants will be in a draw to win an iPOD nano or a Notebook computer.
Importantly the FORUM has been designed to provide students with an opportunity to develop their leadership and professional skills by facilitating the focus group discussions. A group of student leaders have been identified and given specialised training in the skills required for conducting focus groups. Skills and knowledge gained from the workshops will be extremely beneficial to students in both their academic studies and their professional development.
