To teach our teachers, we often send them back to school
The University of Newcastle is renowned for producing inspirational teachers, insightful scholars and innovative leaders. And we’re more than a little proud of the achievements of many of our graduates – some of whom are amongst Australia’s most accomplished teachers.
We’re the largest provider of teacher education training in Australia. We have more than 60 years experience in training teachers for early childhood centres, primary schools and high schools, and our Bachelor of Teaching ‘double degree’ programs meet the graduate level Professional Teaching Standards of the NSW Institute of Teachers.
We work closely with government, Catholic and independent schools, and early childhood centres in our region. This means we send over 3,000 teaching students out to schools for real experience in the classroom every year.
Our students also have the chance to go above and beyond by taking part in extra work placements through programs such as ‘Teach Outreach’. As part of the program we invite local schools to offer project ideas for student volunteers. Our students get the chance to participate in everything from sports carnivals and environmental activities, to tutoring and homework programs.
Our teachers are highly sought after in the profession because they are prepared for the real world.
If you’d like to study teaching at a top class university, you don’t need to look any further than the University of Newcastle.
