School Partnerships
The University of Newcastle continues strong relationships with schools across NSW and Australia.
The Faculty of Science and Information Technology is committed to encouraging positive experiences with science and technology in the community through; SMART (Science, Mathematics And Real Technology) - a science show for primary and high school students, Experiment Fest- Chemistry and Physics experiment days for Senior High School Students, and The Science and Engineering Challenge - activities for High school students to broaden their experience in Science, Technology and Engineering.
The Gifted and Talented Program gives exceptional high school students the opportunity to get a head start on their university study. The program, run in conjunction with Merewether High School, provides a pathway for exceptional students from all high schools to undertake first year university courses while attending school.
Teach Outreach is a volunteer placement program run by the School of Education. The idea is that schools, early childhood centres and community organisations propose an activity that requires volunteers. The School of Education promotes the activity to teacher education students who then decide if they will take it up.
The Teachers' Visit Day is a day of professional learning for primary and secondary school teachers from the Hunter, Central Coast and Manning River areas. Teachers from government, catholic and independent schools are invited. Sessions are run by University staff, across various disciplines and faculties. The Teacher's Visit Day offers cutting edge information related to subject disciplines, pedagogy and advances in technology.
