Hunter Chapter Launch

About 200 University of Newcastle graduates gathered at City Hall last night to celebrate the launch of a new chapter in the global alumni network.

They exchanged notes on their campus and career experiences at the inaugural meeting of the Hunter Alumni Chapter.

Comedian and Bachelor of Arts graduate Mikey Robbins was master of ceremonies, delivering many an anecdote from his time at university in the 1980s.

2012 Alumni Awards - From Little Things Big Things Grow



On Wednesday 17th October, more than 300 guests attended the gala dinner at Newcastle City Hall to celebrate the 37th Annual Alumni Awards. The dinner was hosted by the Executive Committee of Alumni to acknowledge our Alumni who have inspired others with their regional, national and international achievements.

Phil Tweed (Bachelor of Music 1995), Jess O’Dea (Bachelor of Teaching and Health & Physical Education 2010), Holly Clayton (Bachelor of Communications 2007), Clare Rooney (Bachelor of Development Studies 2010), Joel Proctor (Bachelor of Music student) and Stu Brown (Bachelor of Music 2004) entertained with a Phil Tweed arrangement of Climb Every Mountain.

2012 Brisbane Alumni Reception



Over 60 Alumni in Brisbane joined the Chancellor, Dr Ken Moss AM and Vice-Chancellor Professor Caroline McMillen at The Strand on Rugby Quay for a great evening of catching up with old university peers.

130 Psychology students joined Psychology graduates Ben Hainsworth (Practice Manager), Jane Davenport (Specialist Psychologist), Kirsten Palmer (Registered Psychologist) and Tarnya Davis (Clinical and Forensic Psychologist) to hear their journies from graduate to professional.

Ben Hainsworth (Practice Manager) and psychology graduate captivated the audience with his journey from Callaghan campus to the beaches in South East Asia!
Jane Davenport (Specialist Psychologist) and psychology graduate recounted the uncertainty she felt when she first completed her degree and was faced with the task of leaving her comfort zone. She reassured the graduates that being open to different experiences is part of the journey.

Kirsten Palmer (Registered Psychologist) and psychology graduate advised fourth year students to have a coping strategy in place for what proves to be a challenging and demanding year. Kirsten encouraged students to learn from each other and seek mentors to assist them with the career.
Tarnya Davis (Clinical and Forensic Psychologist) and psychology graduate told students how her early career experience in the United Kingdom shaped her career to date. Tarnya advised students thinking of going into private practice to do so with a good group of psychologists!
