Indonesia Australia Alumni Awards

Are you a graduate of the University of Newcastle living or working in Indonesia? If so, you can enter the Australia Indonesia Alumni Awards. Read through the Award categories below and send an updated CV to the Alumni Relations Office: alumni@newcastle.edu.au and we will assist you with your nomination.

Purpose of the Awards
The Indonesia Australia Alumni Awards are an annual award scheme designed to recognise outstanding talent, achievements and contributions made to Indonesia by Australian alumni living and working in Indonesia today.The Awards were first held in February 2008 and are an initiative of Australian Education International (AEI) at the Australian Embassy in Indonesia.

Eligibility for Nomination

  • Nominees must have displayed an ongoing high level of achievement in the award category.
  • Nominees must have studied in Australia for at least 12 months (this can be at the primary or higher educational levels).
  • Nominees do not have to be currently working in the particular discipline from which they graduated.
  • Nominations for 2012 have closed. To be considered as a candidate for 2013, please email alumni@newcastle.edu.au

Award Categories

AUSTRALIAN ALUMNI AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN EDUCATION
This award seeks to recognise significant contribution made by alumni to Indonesian education. Through their work, this individual will have demonstrated leadership, initiative and commitment to education delivery, curriculum development, teaching and pedagogy, school and university management, innovative policy initiatives and reform. This includes those formally employed in the education sector as teachers, lecturers, rectors, department officers and policy makers, as well as those working in the non-government sector or in a voluntary capacity.

AUSTRALIAN ALUMNI AWARD FOR RESEARCH AND INNOVATION
This award seeks to recognise significant achievement in any field of research and innovation which contributes to current knowledge stock in Indonesia. This includes all areas of current scientific research and can include contributions to technological advancements we enjoy today.

AUSTRALIAN ALUMNI AWARD FOR SUSTAINABLE ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT
This award seeks to recognise an individual whose actions have contributed to the development of a prosperous, democratic and safe Indonesia. This can include the work of an individual in a professional or volunteer capacity that contributes to sustainable growth and economic management; democracy, justice and good governance; basic services and/or humanitarian work.

AUSTRALIAN ALUMNI AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN MEDIA, CULTURE AND THE ARTS
This award seeks to recognise outstanding talent, originality, professionalism and flair in media, culture and the arts.

AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN NATIONAL DEFENCE
This award acknowledges the importance of the national defence sector to Indonesia’s political, economic and social wellbeing. Applicants will have made a contribution to national, regional and global defence operations; provided assistance to communities affected by natural disasters; been deployed as United Nations peacekeepers; or developed new legislative reforms.

AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN NATIONAL SECURITY
This award acknowledges the importance of the national security sector to Indonesia’s political, economic and social well-being. Applicants will have been involved in efforts to deal with transnational crime, environmental degradation, maritime security or other threats to Indonesia’s integrity, prosperity and security.

AWARD FOR ENTREPRENEURSHIP
This award seeks to recognise innovative and entrepreneurial business people in any industry sectors in Indonesia. Applicants are contributors to creating new business opportunity and strong growth prospects for their respective industry.

AWARD FOR BUSINESS LEADERSHIP AND BUSINESS MANAGEMENT
This award seeks to recognise business leadership and a commitment to responsible business practices that have brought about positive changes to the work place, as well as provided inspiration to others. This award recognises emerging and current leaders.

AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTION TO PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION
This award seeks to recognise an individual in the public sector who has made an outstanding contribution to public policy and program development in Indonesia.   This may include developing and implementing public reform programs, mentoring and training staff in order to achieve successful public administration outcomes, and furthering international cooperation with foreign counterparts.

AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING YOUNG ALUMNI
This award seeks to recognise outstanding talent, achievement and/or contribution made by alumni in their chosen field that demonstrates integrity, initiative and innovation. This award is open to alumni who are under 35 years of age (at the time of nomination) and open to alumni in all fields of employment, community service and voluntary work.
