About Alumni
What is Alumni?
Alumni is the body established under the University of Newcastle Act that consists of its graduates (including honorary degree recipients), current and past members of the University Council, Professors and full-time members of academic staff, as well as approved graduates of other universities.
Alumni and Convocation are synonymous. Alumni also includes graduates of antecedent insitutions listed below;
- Newcastle Teachers College
- National Art School (amalgamated with NCAE in 1975)
- College of the University of NSW (Tighes Hill)
- Newcastle Conservatorium of Music
- Newcastle College of Advanced Education and the Hunter Institute of Higher Education.
Alumni has four graduate positions on the University Council who represent the graduates retain a strong voice in the governance and strategic future of the University.
The University of Newcastle Act provides for an elected Committee to represent the Alumni body. If you would like more information about how you could participate in the Committee, please contact the Alumni office.
