The University of Newcastle (UON) Foundation

The University of Newcastle Foundation

The University Foundation is the platform for philanthropic support for the University. The generosity of our alumni, community members, business organisations and industry leaders has established student scholarships, supported early career researchers, set up professorial positions and enriched the social and cultural lives of our communities.

Every gift makes a difference and the University of Newcastle thanks all our supporters for their contributions.

There are seven ways of philanthropic giving to support the University:

  • scholarships and prizes recognising academic, artistic or athletic excellence as well as supporting disadvantaged students
  • contributing to current research or initiating research projects in areas of special interest
  • bequests to support teaching and research
  • sponsoring professorial positions for academics of national and international reputation
  • donations to an endowment fund to support exciting emerging opportunities
  • in-kind donations supporting the cultural life of the University and the community
  • partnering with the University on special projects.

Recent philanthropic activity includes:

  • a generous bequest to music and voice scholarships from the Estate of Norman Bushman
  • engineering and science scholarships for 30 students donated by Xstrata Coal NSW
  • support for establishing Indigenous education scholarships from a bequest from the Estate of Dr Beryl Collier
