WORK INTEGRATED LEARNING is a feature of our learning experience. More than 90 per cent of our undergraduate degrees include the opportunity to participate in work-integrated learning. This provides the real-world experience you need to hit the ground running when you graduate.

As part of her Bachelor of Communications, Emily undertook several work experience opportunities. "I've had so many opportunities to gain real experience in a variety of fields, including presenting on and running our own radio show". Soon after graduating in 2014, Emily secured a highly coveted cadetship as a journalist at 2HD/New FM Radio in Newcastle. "Without a doubt I wouldn't have got this job without the work integrated learning I undertook. It gave me both the right skills to be eligible, and the networking opportunities to be noticed for an interview". 

Our grads get jobs


Our graduates are successful, career-ready and in demand. As well as finding great jobs quickly, our graduates are competitive in national and international job markets. The latest Australian Graduate Survey results reveal:

  • Our highest earning first year bachelor degree graduates are engineers, with salaries as high as $67,000 per annum
  • Graduates of our Bachelor of Construction Management earn 15 per cent more than those from other Australian universities
  • 75% of UON bachelor degree graduates find a job within 4 months of completing their qualification
  • The median salary for a UON graduate is 4% higher than the national average.

Anton Monstead
After graduating from our Bachelor of Arts in 1994 Anton Monsted has gone onto an amazing career, which has included being a co-producer on The Great Gatsby and music supervisor on Australia and Moulin Rouge. Anton recently left his post as general manager at Bazmark (Baz Luhrmann's music company), to be Senior Vice President of Music at Twentieth Century Fox.
