We are a university of excellence for Indigenous employment, education and research.
We have the highest number of Indigenous staff of any university in Australia. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people currently make up 2.8 per cent of our staff. Our Indigenous Employment Strategy Nauwai (PDF 298KB) focuses on attracting quality applications for academic and professional positions at all levels across the University. We provide an internal environment that promotes professional and personal growth for Indigenous staff and develop strong collaboration with relevant community organisations.
We are also the only university in New South Wales to have a campus-wide approach to reconciliation with our Reconciliation Action Plan 2011-2015 (PDF 940KB).
We are focused on assisting Indigenous people to secure a job with our University. We provide the following services:
- assistance in preparing job applications
- the Kunarr Alumni Connections Program provides pathways for Indigenous alumni to apply for positions.
We also have formal partnerships with a number of local community and job network employment agencies to promote job opportunities. These organisations currently include:
- job network providers
- Aboriginal employment interagencies
- Indigenous jobs markets – Hunter and Central Coast.
