About our School

Welcome from Head of School

Welcome to the School of Environmental and Life Sciences. Our School is made up of six disciplines which includes applied sciences, biology, chemistry, earth sciences, geography and environmental studies and environmental science and management.

Our School is highly research active in these discipline areas, with a focus on developing research and teaching skills that encourage critical thinking and problem solving strategies across all of our degrees. We have a strong commitment to producing top quality graduates at all levels of our degree programs.

Our subject area of environmental science has been ranked within the top 200 in the 2014 QS World Subject Rankings with geography ranked in the top 100. A recent report from the Australian Bureau of Statistics also indicates that Australians with university level qualifications in science have one of the best career perspectives nationwide.

Many of our research academics within the School are in discipline areas that have also achieved an "above world standard" rating in the 2012 Excellence in Research for Australia assessment.

Our students are taught by these leading staff members and have direct access to analytical equipment, laboratory facilities and support services.

We also have strong connections to industry which students can access through field trips and work placement opportunities.

Our Merit Pathway program is designed to help high achieving science students reach their full potential. It gives high achievers access to opportunities beyond the standard undergraduate science degree and a chance to undergo their own research project.

Welcome to the School of Environmental and Life Sciences and I hope that you are impressed by our teaching and research standards. You'll find more information about us including our research and programs by following the links below.
