Fine Art Showcase

The Bachelor of Fine Art (BFA) has been designed to respond to changing community and educational needs and to the exciting multidisciplinary trends of contemporary art. The broad range of courses on offer provide great scope to for students to specialise or diversify. Below are just a few examples of work currently being undertaken by some of our students.

In July a group of eleven Fine Arts students from the University of Newcastle participated in the Roman Architectural Sketchbook course in Rome, arranged by AIM Overseas. During the 3-week course students used the historical buildings of the city as source material for their art works.

Following this, in August, they participated in an exhibition displaying some of the drawing, photography and sculptural work produced as a result of this experience at Watt Space Gallery. It was be opened by Rob Malecki, CEO of AIM  (Australian Institute for Mobility) who kindly sponsored this event.

Emma is a prolific artist who, on top of her studies, is actively involved in a number of local art-based programs such as Renew Newcastle and the 2013 This Is Not Art (TINA) festival.Emma's "Heart" recently took out the top prize in the Watt Space Gallery's open show "A Force Of Habit".
