Academic Division
We take a dynamic approach to teaching and learning to ensure that innovation underpins curriculum design, course delivery and assessment. We foster staff success by supporting outstanding teaching and sharing our achievements with other universities. We also support students to build high-level academic skills.
Our top priority is to ensure our students receive fair and equitable treatment across all courses and campuses. We play a proactive role in helping students resolve academic and administrative issues.
We are contributing to the development of Australia's industry leaders of the future by facilitating industry experience programs and linking students with companies. Our students benefit from quality education combined with meaningful industry experience. Employers benefit from accessing new talent and influencing the practical experience of future professionals.
We are recognised nationally for our success in assisting students from a variety of backgrounds to enter university. We provide a range of enabling programs and English language support.
We deliver strategies to enhance equity, fairness and social justice for staff, students and our community. We are known for our support of indigenous students and students from low socio economic backgrounds to access and succeed in tertiary education.
We coordinate the marketing, administration and delivery of a wide range of online and on campus postgraduate degrees and executive programs. Our teaching approach is learner centered, providing students with control over when and where they study.
We are responsible for ensuring students have a positive relationship with our University and promote an outstanding student experience. We manage student and academic administration, student support services, careers, graduation, and fees and scholarships.
The University Gallery enhances the learning and teaching experience of contemporary art, design and related disciplines. The Gallery presents and promotes the work of our students and graduates. We also present curated exhibitions and touring shows that are relevant to the wider University and Hunter community.
Our libraries are innovative and accessible. We have created vibrant spaces where students want to engage. Our libraries are welcoming and include places to eat, study and learn. We provide access to resources online, in person, and through domestic and international affiliate libraries. Students are supported with library and research skills programs and access to subject librarians.
The Wollotuka Institute unites all Indigenous activities of the University of Newcastle into one operational and strategic body. We convert the University's commitment to Indigenous education into action. Our focus areas are: academic; research; student engagement and experience; and employment and development of indigenous staff.
