In nearly all forms of academic writing, you will need to support your arguments with reference to the literature, ensuring you cite all sources you consult.

Effective note taking helps you to build evidence of your research.

Consider the following strategies for effective note taking:

• Saving time and avoiding time wasters
• Surveying the arguments and supporting evidence
• Recording your citations

It's a good idea to retain any original sources of information, photocopies or printouts, at least until you have submitted your assignment, just in case you need to double-check any quotations, paraphrasing etc.
