Prof. Minyue Fu

Biography

Minyue Fu received his Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Science and Technology of China, Hefei, China, in 1982, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1983 and 1987, respectively.

From 1983 to 1987, he held a teaching assistantship and a research assistantship at the Uiniversity of Wisconsin-Madison. He worked as a Computer Engineering Consultant at Nicolet Instruments, Inc., Madison, Wisconsin, during 1987. From 1987 to 1989, he served as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Wayne State University, Detroit, Michigan. For the summer of 1989, he was employed by the Universite Catholoque de Louvain, Belgium, as a Maitre de Conferences Invited. He joined the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, the University of Newcastle, Australia, in 1989. Currently, he is a Chair Professor in Electrical Engineering and Head of School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. In addition, he was a Visiting Associate Professor at University of Iowa in 1995-1996, and a Senior Fellow/Visiting Professor at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, 2002.

Research expertise

I have over 20 years of research experience in control systems, communications, and signal processing. I have published 13 book chapters, over 70 refereed journal papers, and over 130 refereed conference papers in these areas. In the last 10 years, my portion of competitive research funding exceeded $2M. In January 2004, I was elected an IEEE Fellow for contributions to robust control and signal estimation (Fellowship citation). My main contributions relevant to the proposed research include the following:

Control Systems: Control of dynamical systems has been my main research area. Over 2/3 of my publications are in this area. My main work includes robustness analysis, robust control design, and switching adaptive control. The work on robust control is most relevant to the proposed research on feedback communications for control system.

Digital Communications: I have about 15 publications in modulation and detection, coding and decoding, channel equalization, and multi-antenna systems.

Signal Processing: I am the author/co-author of about 45 publications in signal processing, particularly in robust and multirate signal processing.

Collaboration

His main research interests include control systems, signal processing and communications. He has been an Associate Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control and Journal of Optimization and Engineering.

Postgraduate courses include advanced control systems, robust control, system identification, optimization techniques and time-delay systems. Also have teaching experience in several countries (USA, Singapore and Australia). Won Best Teaching Award for teaching in USA in 1988.
