Biography
Director, Centre for Intelligent Electricity Networks, The University of Newcastle
Prof Dong is Ausgrid Chair and Director of the Centre for Intelligent Electricity Networks (CIEN) at the University of Newcastle, Australia. He was previously with the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong, and the University of Queensland, Australia. He also worked as (power transmission) system planning manager at Transend Networks, Australia. His research interest includes smart grid, power system planning, power system security, load modeling, renewable energy systems, electricity market, and computational intelligence and its application in power engineering. He is an editor of IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON SMART GRID, and IEEE POWER ENGINEERING LETTERS. He is an international Advisor for the lead Chinese journal of Automation of Electric Power Systems.
He has been a contractor and listed researcher with Electrical Power Research Institute (EPRI), USA since 2001, and has successfully carried out 7 EPRI R&D projects in power system stability, power system contingency assessment, power system computing and load modeling areas. He has won over 10 ARC grants, 3 grants under HK RGC & ITF scheme, many industrial R&D and consulting projects in power system planning, stability assessment and electricity market analysis and load modeling areas. He is a member of IEEE taskforce on power system cascading failure, and a chapter coordinator for CIGRE work group on load modeling. Prof Dong has published over 340 technical papers, approximately half of them are referred journal publications.
