Biography
Georgios (George) Kouretzis received his PhD from the School of Civil Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), Greece in 2005. In the following years, he has continued his engagement with NTUA as an post-doctoral researcher, and as a casual academic. His research is focused in the field of Geotechnical Earthquake Engineering; and specifically in (dynamic) soil-structure interaction effects under cyclic loading, evaluation of soil and topography effects on strong earthquake ground motion, aseismic design of underground structures under transient and permanent ground displacements, and design of protective structures to resist conventional weapons effects.
Parallel to his research activities he has been involved as an engineering consultant and as an auditor, in a series of major projects including energy and transportation infrastructures, collaborating with Greek and International consulting and construction firms.
He serves as a reviewer for the International Journals: Engineering Structures, Earthquake Engineering and Structural Dynamics, Soil Dynamics and Earthquake Engineering, Bulletin of Earthquake Engineering, International Journal of Structural Stability and Dynamics, Journal of Scientific Research and Essays, and Geological and Geotechnical Engineering.
