Biography
I was born in Lima, Perú, and brought up in Germany and Chile, where I studied electronics engineering at the Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María. In 1998, I received the B. Eng. degree, worked then as a part-time lecturer, and in 2000 graduated with Ingeniero Civil Electrónico and M.Sc. degrees. I then moved to Australia to pursue postgraduate studies under supervision of Professor Graham Goodwin. In 2005, I was conferred the Ph.D. degree from The University of Newcastle for my work on quantized moving horizon optimization.
After employment as a research associate from 2006 to 2008, in 2009 I was awarded a five-year Australian Research Fellowship, which has allowed me to investigate networked control systems. Since 2011, I also lead an Australian Research Council Discovery Project on controller design for power converters.

Research expertise
My research has focused on several issues which arise in networked control systems, quantisation schemes having explicit or implicit feedback, and predictive control formulations. To develop original and high-performance designs, I am interested in combining elements of systems control, signal processing, and telecommunications.
Collaboration
I have had the pleasure of collaborating with various distinguished researchers, each with their own style. My current coauthors are with institutions, such as: Uppsala University and KTH Stockholm (Sweden), Kyoto University (Japan), The University of Notre Dame (USA), Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María (Chile), INRIA Grenoble (France), Aalborg University (Denmark), University of Stuttgart (Germany), ABB Corporate Research (Switzerland), Universidad de Sevilla (Spain), Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and The University of Melbourne (Australia).
