Feb 2012 Implemenmtation Phase Commences
The curriculum renewal process has progressed from the initial consultation phase to the implementation phase. A number of working groups have been formed, concentrating on aspects of the curriculum: Pathways and Themes, Modules and PBL, Competencies and Objectives, Assessment, Clinical Schools, Interprofessional Learning and Research. The working groups will report back initially to the second retreat on 29 and 30 March. Feb 2012 High tech innovations in medical education
The JMP is utilising UNE's partnership with UC Irvine, to pioneer the use of iPads and portable ultrasound for students at UNE's School of Rural Medicine. Year 1 medical students at UNE have received iPads to enable them to participate in the project. » Read more

Nov 2011 Curriculum Renewal Working Group Meeting, 14 October
The initial consultation phase concluded with a meeting of the Steering Group held to consider feedback obtained from focus groups and individuals during the July to October period. The outcome of this was the adoption of a substantially amended curriculum structure which addressed the major concerns raised during the consultation process. Jul 2011 Release of discussion paper for BMed Curriculum Review
Following the meeting of the Review Steering Group in May a discussion paper has been developed and can be downloaded here. The document outlines a framework for significant change in the JMP with a number of recommendations. The Steering Committee is now seeking feedback on the proposed changes. Nov 2010 Extensive review of learning activities
The majority of learning for JMP students in their first three years is delivered in small groups in a problem-based learning environment, which is supported by lecture style and interactive presentations to help students meet particular aspects of their learning targets. Interactive presentations are referred to as Fixed Resource Sessions (FRSs), and are intended to be highly interactive. The styles used often depend on the complexity of content covered, and the preference of the presenter. » Read more

Sep 2010 Academic Student Mentor Scheme
The Academic Student Mentor Scheme was developed to support early identification of students requiring assistance and to work with them in developing strategies to address issues affecting their performance. The scheme supports the JMP Student Welfare and Fitness to Practise procedure which emphasises early identification of and support to 'impaired' students. » Read more

Jul 2010 Tablelands Clinical School now training students
The JMP received $5.5 million dollars in Commonwealth funding, awarded under the Rural Education Infrastructure Development (REID) program to construct and fit out the Tablelands Clinical School and develop a training practice building in consultation with the New England Division of General Practice and GP Synergy. » Read more
